On August 26, 2010, Nigeria's President, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck E. Jonathan, launched the Road Map for Power Sector Reform, with a call for an active involvement of the Private sector, adding that the Private sector will now be responsible for power generation and distribution, and also serve as the catalyst to the success of the project.

Further, in line with the Nigerian Mineral and Mining Act of 2007, the Nigerian President’s agenda is to provide for improved economic standing of the country, and the solid mineral Sector is being looked at as responsible for the needed additional input, apart from oil by having everyone on-board with his or her own ideas to be able to move the economy forward.

The Power and Steel Exhibition and Conference Event with the theme “Solving the Power and Steel Industry Challenges in Africa”, now endorsed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, is geared towards bringing together all power and steel experts across the globe to the Abuja International Conference Centre, Abuja, Nigeria, from 22-24 May, 2012 to discuss the latest technology advancement in Equipments and Resources.

Speaking at an audience with members of the Board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company led by Vice President Namadi Sambo in Abuja on Tuesday, President Jonathan said that his Administration remains fully committed to the attainment of uninterrupted power supply in Nigeria before the end of its tenure in 2015. He added that the Federal Government is mindful of importance of steady power supply to national development, and would therefore do everything possible to ensure that all its plans and projects to guarantee stable power supply are successfully implemented.

“We all know the importance of power. We look forward to a time when Nigerians can enjoy uninterrupted power supply from the beginning to the end of a year and we are working hard to ensure that that objective is attained within the life-span of this Administration.”

-  President Goodluck Jonathan, President Federal Republic of Nigeria, PM News, August 16, 2011.

"...that the level of commitment of the Federal Government to move the minerals and metal sector forward has necessitated the enactment of various regulatory frameworks such as mining regulations which was meant to complement the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act of 2007..."
“...Mr. President’s own agenda is to provide for improved economic standing of the country and the solid minerals sector is being looked at as being responsible for additional input, apart from oil and I think the only way we can do it is by having everyone on board to come up with his or her own ideas so that we would be able to move forward...”

-  Arc. Musa Mohammed Sada, Honourable Minister of Mines and Steel Development

alt

"...The President does not like to bandy words on these 4,000MW, 3,000MW and 6,000MW. What the President wants is that there is actual improvement and wherever we get to we stay there...6,000MW won't even do anything for Nigeria. So we are not talking about 6,000MW at all. We are talking about power reliability in the country..."

-  Professor Bert Nnaji, Nigerian Minister of Power, Sunday Punch, November 7, 20.
